Day 44 Harpers Ferry, WV to Point of Rocks, Md (Leesburg, VA) (17 bike miles; 2902 cumulative miles)

The plan had been to take a 1/2 rest day and use it to explore Harper's Ferry and vicinity.

But the rain had other plans for us. It had rained much of the evening and it was raining when we woke up. We had eggs and veggies for breakfast and then headed back to Harpers Ferry to visit the bike shop, ceramics studio and whatever else seemed interesting.

Harpers Ferry actually is a pretty nice town, located where the Shenandoah flows into the Potomac. It has been beautifully restored with a lot of history. There are also lots of hiking and biking trails and spectacular scenery.

But the rain was unrelenting so we were pretty much forced to stay inside.

Rickey was very proud of herself for following the instruction to "Examine Closely"!

But we did find good use for the new umbrellas that we purchased earlier at the bike shop.

We headed back to Tiggy for lunch and decided to give biking a shot despite the rain. So off we were on our bikes back to Harpers Ferry and then a foot bridge over the Shenandoah River and back into Maryland, where we picked up the C & O trail with the Potomac just to our right.

Since it had been raining for quite some time, the trail was very wet and both our bikes and our bodies got caked in mud.

We biked through Brunswick, Maryland and met Rickey and Judy at Point of Rocks, MD where Tiggy shuttled us a few miles south to the Leesburg, VA Days Inn, the closest place we could find to stay for the night.
