Day 28 Hermann to St. Charles, MO (71 bike miles; 1979 cum miles)

Leaving Hermann, we crossed back across the Missouri River, and back onto our old friend Route 94. Once again, it was fairly flat biking through the flood plain with its lush farms and fields. But once it turned inland, the steep hills and valleys were back.

Surprising as it sounds, probably the steepest hills we encountered anywhere on the trip were shortly after we turned onto County Road U. But thereafter we encountered more gentle hills and valleys to Warrenton, where we pretty much followed the I-70 service road through many small towns north of St. Louis. We had hoped to get to West Alton near the Mississippi, but with threatening weather we decided to stay in St. Charles at a Sleep Inn, where Charlie and I enjoyed the hot tub to soothe our aching muscles.

  1. That's the first I have heard of your aching muscles! And how are they now?
