Introduction

Bill and Charlie’s Cross Country Bike Ride for Hunger Relief

The Rev. Charlie Ortman, Pastor at the Unitarian Universalist
Congregation at Montclair, and
Bill Slezak, of the First UU Church of Essex County in Orange,
are taking their wheels on the road to raise consciousness about the hungry among us.
Kris Wells of Davenport, Iowa will also be riding!!

(Jonathan Slezak, Bill's son will be joining them for part of the trip as well!)

The Plan
April 9-13: Drive the camper from New Jersey to California, picking up people along the way.
April 14-early June: Bike 3,021 miles from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean and crossing 14 states, following the route designed by Race Across America.

While the others bike, there will be wonderful volunteers driving the camper along the route: Dennis Barnum, Martha Easter-Wells, Jay Bowman, Rickey Slezak, and Judy Ortman!

Because hunger is right next door, this ride will benefit Toni’s Kitchen, a food ministry where warm hospitality and hot nutritious meals are served every Thursday, Friday and Saturday as well as on Christmas Day.
